We have had a great sunny summer at Compton Verney and would like to thank everyone who visited summerspace and took part in the activities.

We had a total of 1’918 participants visiting summerspace. We are grateful for the dedicated people who came back time and time again.

Coming up will be a display in the atrium of  work we thought were outstanding and needed to be exhibited.

Love the large room space in the seminar room. Finally enough space and light for the children to work.

Welcome To Summerspace At Compton Verney!

Family drop in activities 12-4pm, Tue 26 July – Sun 4 September 2011

Summerspace is a fun family learning experience designed to provide families with a chance to get creative. Based on our ‘Capability’ Brown landscape we have created a range of craft activities for you and your family to take part in and create some fabulous artwork reflecting ‘Capability’ Brown. Just take a walk down to the learning center through the gift shop and join in the fun!

Follow the plant trail…..

What do you think about our grounds? Is there anything you would design differently? Well now’s your chance!

Come and visit our summer space and join in to create your own Compton Verney model landscape designed by you.

Simply pick up some natural materials on your way around our grounds to personalize the model of the grounds or come straight here and use the supplies provided by us.

Put your drawing and painting skills into practice and create personalized piece of art reflecting a specific section of the Compton Verney House and landscape to display on our mural.

Important note: please refrain from picking flowers and leaves form the trees, instead, please pick up debris and leaves from the ground.

  • Leaves
  • Twigs / sticks
  • Stones / small rocks
  • Bark
  • Feathers (from the ground not the birds)

We were so busy getting summerspace ready that we ran out of time to blog. The final day went really well with lots of activity going on in the space. We split into two groups to get on and put the final preparations together.

A few of us started to build a model of Compton Verney’s landscape. We draw a map so we knew where everything would go and started to make the ice house and Robert Adam bridge to put in place. We developed slide show of instructions on how to make your own to add to the landscape or take home with you.  We would like families to make the trees in the landscape out of natural found materials that have been picked up from the grounds. We also drew out template of cows for little ones to colour in and add to the back ground. We hope that all ages would enjoy this activity and can find something for them to do.

The other group worked on the wall to make a big back drop of the landscape. The projected images to draw round and included a lot of details. The would like families to collage small areas of the landscape so over time you start to see the bigger images filled in to create a giant landscape of Compton Verney. This allows families to work together and leave their mark on the landscape. We hope visitors will have different styles and creative imput to add.

We are very excited to see families joining in and hope to see them over the summer holidays.

Today we began by reading and discussing the groups ideas to begin to plan our final workshop plan and idea. We looked at the ideas we had generated the day before and began to see whether they would fit in with the criteria of Lancelot Brown’s exhibition.  This morning we had a talk from the marketing team from Compton Verney and they explained to us the kind of things they are asked to work on during their day.

After lunch we finalized our ideas in groups and started looking at how we could complete them. We then went outside and gathered materials which would be useful to create parts of our final design and what the families could use in our summer space.
